Camp Coast Care
Mission/Volunteer Opportunities
News from Camp Coast Care from a SoloFlight participant:

Things are changing quickly at Camp Coast Care. Since the 8th day after Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, the mission here has been one of offering free clothing,
food and medical services, including prescriptions. As of this past Friday, the clothing "store" is closed and excess clothing taken to the Salvation Army. In two days, the food store will be closed and replaced with a system offering Prue-packaged boxes with food for an average family (singles???) for about 3 days. These will be made available on a case by case basis with recipients being qualified for food assistance. Part of the qualification includes seeking or obtaining employment, or seeking training for future employment. Voluneers are still needed to package food boxes and help with its distribution. Volunteers also help with case evaluation. This system will also help local grocers regain their customers and their business lives.

Work crews are still being sent to assist with cleanup and rebuilding. Unlike the past, future work sites will be evaluated for need as with the food system.
Part of the reason for this is that there have been cases when volunteer work on residences disqualified the home owner from FEMA assistance. The change to
needs based work assistance will happen "soon."

Immediate Need!!!
Mission/Volunteer Opportunities
Marilyn Auger just called from the Salvation Army to let us know that they are in crisis of sorts... The computer room holding the Angel Tree information was flooded for one week, keeping them from being able to sort and organize the gifts for needy families in our area. Then, the ice cost them about two more days in volunteer help. They are asking for volunteers to assist in sorting and tagging the Salvation Army Angel Tree presents so that they can distribute presents this Friday (12/16)!

Heres the critical information:
